Titusville

We arrived in Titusville on Saturday afternoon and picked up a mooring ball. We were quite close to a sign and I was quite worried we would hit it as we swung, but the guys in the office said it would be fine. It is quite shallow in other places in the mooring field so we decided we would stay put.

We decided to go for a walk to find the shop which wasn't too far away. There is a big highway with two lanes going one way and on the other side traffic going in the opposite direction. We had to concentrate when crossing the road to remember which direction the traffic was coming from!

I have never seen a manatee before. I managed to take a video of this one which is on our YouTube channel as a short.

Andrew tried to get hold of someone in the CBP office in Port Canaveral but they were closed until Monday. After checking in at the marina office and paying for a month for the ball, Andrew phoned the 0800 number. He had to borrow a phone as our US SIM card wasn't activated yet. The person on the other end of the line said that he should just wait until Monday.

On Monday he tried to phone again, but nobody answered. Andrew was sure that we would be told to come in, so he hired a car. It was cheaper to hire a car than take an Uber. We decided to make a day of it and do some sightseeing at the same time.

The officers at the CBP office were amazing. So friendly and helpful. We asked if they were going to keep our papers and the guy was quite amazed. He said, no, they are more relaxed! When he gave us our passports and boat papers back I asked if we could email our exit papers rather than coming in to the office. He said no problem and provided the email address. What a difference!

We might have to go in to the office when we arrive in a new place, but hopefully we will be able to email them when we leave. It also helped that we have a decal and we don’t owe any money.

It was so lovely to have a car and see more of the land than the marina and the closest shop without having to walk miles.

We stopped at Canaveral beach and watched a space launch.

The Home Depo is like Macro on steroids. It is huge!  We also found a massive Target where we bought much needed new frying pans.

Sorry, insider joke with the picture above. When we had a garden, the chap who worked in it once a week couldn't say Siobhan but called me Chevron 😀

Andrew got more and more confident driving on the wrong side of the road as the day wore on. We had a super day and felt like so much had been accomplished.

Andrew did a lot of online shopping for boat parts and various things we have been wanting to get but were unable to in the Caribbean. We just had to use the marina address and the parcels started arriving. We spent the rest of the week cleaning, doing washing and occasional food shopping. The washing machines in Titusville Marina are excellent. They are $1.50 to wash and 0.75c to dry. And it dries beautifully!!

We had promised Laura a trip to Orlando. We looked at every possible permutation but there was no getting around the eye watering expense. So we booked accommodation, hired a car and closed our eyes to the rest of it!
